Watch shops around Gyodong Market on the south of Daegu station initiated the growth of this area in 1970. A small number of small shops gathering one after another began to constitute a commercial area mainly selling or repairing watches or second-hand electric gadgets. Workshops dealing with solid gold or 18K gold products started to settle down from mid-1970s and then, this alley began to have an appearance of jewelry road by 1980s. Around 300 retailers and wholesalers equipped with modern facilities are, currently, selling various products specialized in jewelry in the area. It was assigned as a fashion and jewelry business district in 2005 and expected to build a fashion jewelry special town in around 2010.
