Seonwhadang is believed to have been built in 1601 when a provincial governor, Kim Shinwongong, moved the supreme local government office of Gyeongsang-do, which had been located in Andong, to Daegu.

During the times, Seonwhadang was a place where a provincial governor addressed public affairs. It was set on fire twice in 1730 and restored to the present building in 1807.

From then, it had been located inside the compound of Gyeongbuk Provincial office, until it was re-developed as Jungang Park in 1970. After being repaired in 1997, its name was changed to Gyeongsang Gamyeong Park.
